Eric Holder is the former Attorney General of the United States, but he has taken on a new job these days. Holder was recently hired by Uber to head an investigation into claims of sexual harassment and discrimination made by a woman who used to work as an engineer for the company.
Uber’s CEO sent a memo to employees, assuring them that the inquiry will be carried out in “short order” by Holder, the company’s new head of human resources and others.
The former employee said that in her year as an engineer with the online ride-sharing company she and other female workers reported to Uber’s HR department multiple sexual discrimination and sexual harassment incidents.
The former Uber employee said that soon after she accepted a job with the company, a male manager made sexual advances. When she complained to HR, she was told it was the man’s first offense and that she should transfer to another team. However, she later learned that other female employees had complained about him as well.
The woman recently wrote a widely read blog post about her Uber experiences. She wrote that the “blatant lie” by HR had a negative ripple effect. “We all gave up on Uber HR and our managers after that.”
According to a news media report, Uber’s CEO promises a quick fix of the problem. “Anyone who behaves this way or thinks this is OK will be fired,” he posted on his Twitter account.
